Setup of a Fiber optics structured network

Description:

More and more applications and services require the provision and installation of more robust and efficient infrastructure which now consists of structured cabling to fiber optics. In addition to being used primarily in the vertical frames, fiber optic is now found in horizontal distribution networks and even in some cases directly to the user. The optical fiber is an ideal medium for building telecommunications infrastructure as it is immune to interference from electrical, magnetic and electrostatic sources. The installation requires great precision and attention to detail to ensure data transmission to optoelectronics equipment. In addition, the optical cable is made largely of glass, security measures are very strict set when working with these cables.

Target audience:

Beginners who want to learn fiber optics communication cabling as well as workers with experience who want to hone their practical skills.

Learning objective:

1. Characterise and distinguishing of a fiber optic cable for indoor and outdoor use, single and multi transmission modes, general and specific uses.
2. Characteristics of transmission parameters and performance (attenuation, bandwidth, wavelength, transmission speed, etc..)
3. Termination of cables and connectorisation.
4. Identify installation practices connectors, types of adhesives, techniques for polishing and sealing.
5. Properly plan a network structured cabling to fiber optics.
6. Being able to interpret data and prepare an estimate and symbolization on development plans in regard to telecommunications.
7. Planning vertical distribution of backbone frameworks and optical bypasses which are partly used in redundant networks.
8. Observe the standards and installation techniques.
9. Knowing the standards applicable to the installation of a structured cabling infrastructure to fiber optics for industrial and commercial building, understanding technical drawing, follow the bend radius and pulling forces and the handling of fiber optic cabling.
10. Security, performance and management of structured cabling to fiber optics.
11. Crossing techniques, mounting, identification and termination of fiber optic cables.
12. Verification and certification of structured cabling system using specialized measuring tools.
13. Testing and troubleshooting techniques.
14. Network documentation and standards.
